“What's next?”
It’s a question many women find themselves asking at some point in their 50s, 60s and beyond.
Perhaps the children have grown up. Your career has changed or come to an end. Your relationships, routines or priorities may look different from a few years ago.
And suddenly, there’s space for a question you may not have had time to consider before:
What do I want next?
The good news is you don't have to know the answer.
We can sometimes put enormous pressure on ourselves to have a plan.
We think we need to discover our purpose, choose a new direction and know exactly what our next chapter is going to look like.
But what if your next chapter isn't something you have to figure out?
What if it's something you can explore?
You could try something simply because it interests you. Learn something you've always been curious about. Visit somewhere new. Start a creative project. Join a group.
Take a class. Reconnect with something you loved years ago.
It doesn't have to become a business.
It doesn't have to become a career.
It doesn't even have to become a long-term commitment.
You can simply try it.
Curiosity is a wonderful starting point because it doesn't demand certainty.
You don't have to know where something will lead before you take the first step.
Sometimes an experience opens a door you didn't know existed. Sometimes you discover something isn't for you and that's valuable too.
Changing your mind isn't failure.
It's part of exploring.
This week's What's Next? Moment is wonderfully simple.
Take a few minutes and write down three things you'd love to explore.
Don't think about whether they're practical, sensible, affordable or achievable right now.
Just write.
Maybe it's learning to paint. Starting a podcast. Travelling somewhere new. Growing a garden.
Writing a book. Learning Canva. Volunteering. Starting a small business.
Dancing. Or simply finding more time for yourself.
No commitment. No pressure. No plan required.
Just three possibilities.
Once you've written your three ideas, choose the one that makes you smile or makes you a little curious.
You don't have to commit to doing it.
Just ask yourself:
“What is one tiny thing I could do to explore this?”
Maybe it's a Google search, saving a website, watching a video, writing down an idea or simply talking to someone who already does it.
That's enough.
Your next chapter doesn't have to begin with knowing exactly where you're going.
Sometimes it begins with being curious enough to ask:
“I wonder what's possible?”
Small moments. Fresh possibilities. Your next chapter.
